August In NJ is a Foodie Wonderland!

The arrival of New Jersey Monthly’s Annual “Best Restaurant” issue means one thing, the best foodie month in the Garden State is here. The August issue is a great way to plan new restaurants to try during the rest of the year, but before you do that, load up on sunscreen, check your tire pressure, and get ready to experience the foodie wonderland that is Garden State in August.

Montclair Restaurant Week kicks off the month on August 1st. Hosted by the Montclair Rotary Club and the MC Hotel, Montclair Restaurant Week runs August 1 – 7, 2016. Only restaurants that support Taste of Montclair are invited to participate. This year the list includes Vital Dining, Gelotti, Ah’Pizz, Stuffed Grass Fed Burgers, and more. Chef Todd Villani Pop Up Kitchen at Escape 

Escape Chef/Owner Chef Bryan Gregg will welcome acclaimed New Jersey Chef Todd Villani, Chef/Owner of recently-closed Terre à Terre in Carlstadt, as guest chef in the Escape kitchen in July and August and for a Terre à Terre-inspired pop up evening.

Caldwell Restaurant Week August 7 – 14 

Caldwell Restaurant Week returns for a third year August 7-14. Award wining Caldwell restaurants like Xunta Tapas Espana, Dough Artisan Pizzeria, La Famiglia, Di Sopra, and Big Fish Taco joined forces to to make this annual event a hit. With a budget of less than $100, Caldwell Restaurant Week shows what is possible when small businesses work together. To celebrate the ‪#‎JerseyFresh‬ Peach, ‪#‎Nutley‬ Mayor Joseph P. Scarpelli, the Greenutley Committee, and the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council invite you to the Nutley Farmers Market Peach Party on Sunday August 7th. This year’s Peach Party will feature a Perfect Peach Pie Baking Contest, raffle, tastings, recipes, and more to celebrate New Jersey’s own locally grown peaches.

Join Spuntino on Tuesday, August 9th for a Farm-to-Table Dinner to benefit City Green, Inc. The reception starts at 6:30pm with dinner to follow at 7:00pm.

The food harvested in City Green gardens goes directly to the community where it was grown. The produce from their larger scale farms is made available through their farm stands in locations where fresh, healthy food is generally unavailable. This has been true since the beginning of the organization and remains so today, because farm-to-table food should be available for everyone.

Truckerton at Tuckerton Seaport Aug 13

Drive into the Tuckerton Seaport for “Truck”erton Food Truck & Brew Fest on Saturday, August 13 from 11am-8pm and Sunday, August 14 from 11am-6pm. The Seaport will host 20 gourmet food trucks over the two days from all over the East Coast, bringing a flavor blast to the Jersey Shore. Have you ever tried the ooey gooey deliciousness of Wisconsin Battered Cheese Curds? Who has room for a fat sandwich loaded with onion rings and French fries? Be sure to save some room for authentic Belgian waffles with toppings imported from France. Also, enjoy live music throughout the day and the craft beer garden with NJ’s favorites on tap, featuring local favorite Pinelands Brewing Co. The Garden State’s Laurita Winery will also be selling local wines by the bottle. Limited-edition official “Truck”erton T-Shirts will be available for purchase the day of the event but are expected to sell out quickly.

NJ Wine Festival at Demarest Farms Aug 13 – 14 Hillsdale NJ

Demarest Farms Annual Wine Festival features many top, award winning wineries in the region. The event takes place August 13th and 14th from 12-6pm. Come enjoy wine tasting, live music, and food!

Cost for this event is $12 per person (under 21 is $5 per person). This includes a wine tasting glass, unlimited sampling of wines from 11 different NJ wineries, and admission to all band performances.

Newark’s Harvest, a citywide garden tour Tours run Aug 15 – 20

A dozen gardens and/or urban farms across Newark, NJ are participating in Newark’s Harvest, A Citywide Garden Tour as part of the City’s 350-year celebration during the week of August 15-20, 2016. Dates and times are listed HERE.

Taste of Montclair returns to the Manor in West Orange March 13, 2017. Montclair’s largest food-centric charity event donates 100% of ticket sales to the charities supported by the Montclair Rotary Club.
