Circle Brook Farm CSA Meet The Farmer Night April 20 at Dough Caldwell
Visit Dough on Wednesday April 20th and meet their Circle Brook Farm for their 2016 Community Supported Agriculture program. If you enjoy the high-quality, organic produce you find in Dough’s dishes, odds are they were grown at Circle Brook Farm.
2016 Meet The Farmer Night is Wed April 20th 6pm-8pm
Circle Brook Farm is an 80 acre farm located in Andover NJ, just 35 miles from Caldwell. Farmer John Krueger shares our immense passion for high-quality ingredients, and grows a wide variety of certified organic produce.
We are huge advocates for knowing the source of your food. We’ve partnered with Circle Brook Farm because we believe in their cause – and the product Farmer John produces.
The 2016 Organic CSA will run 24 weeks, with weekly pick-ups on Tuesdays from 4pm – 8pm. Early season produce will yield approximately 7 – 8 different varieties of produce, while peak season will yield up to 12 different varieties.
Almost every weekly share will contain:
lettuce
a green (spinach, arugula, kale, Swiss chard etc.)
a root vegetable (carrots, beets, radishes, turnips, parsnips etc.)
a brassica family vegetable (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower etc.)
an allium (onion, garlic, leek etc.)
and an herb (basil, cilantro, dill, parsley etc.).
Also included through the course of the season will be: peas (English, sugarsnap, snow), beans, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, escarole, radicchio, celery, melons and watermelon, sweet potatoes and winter squash and more.
John Krueger owner/operator of Circle Brook Farm, grows high quality organic vegetables for about 700 members in 9 CSA groups and 3 area farmer’s markets. John is now the proud new owner of Circle Brook Farm, an 80 acre farm in Andover Twp that includes a large old farm house where John lives and houses farm workers, and a large barn. The barn is the center of operations; it houses 2 walk-in coolers and serves as packing house, mechanic shop and lunch room, among other functions. John has begun to transition Circle Brook Farm into organic production and is anxious to begin planting fruit trees and bushes and slowly expand into production of eggs and other grass fed animal products. Meanwhile John also leases several acres of fertile organic land on Goodhand Farm adjacent to Circle Brook Farm and several more acres of organic land in nearly Allamuchy.
John has a grand vision of a diversified and integrated farm, something akin to the typical small farm of 100 years ago, except with the cutting edge techniques and materials available in the 21st century. He looks forward to creating a sustainable operation, producing nutritious food for as many folks as possible with a minimum of external inputs- one of many emerging “model farms” that are leading the way as we learn to farm for the future. More than this, he hopes the farm will be a place for CSA members and market customers to visit, a place to bring their children to show them the source of their food and teach them about farming.
