Finally the snow is melting in New Jersey, but we know more may loom in the forecast. Enough of the bread and milk posts fodder, we are fans of popcorn. A sustainable storable snack that has options. WithSuperbowl 50 this weekend, we spoke to local chefs and Taste of Montclair supporters to find out what they love to toss with this boss snack, and their suggestions are nothing short of super.
Anthony Lauro of Anthony’s Cheesecake, a Taste of Montclair favorite, is a huge toffee fan. The warm amber swirl of butter sugar& salt heated to a savory sauce and drizzled over freshly popped corn is a touchdown for the gang on Washington Avenue in Bloomfield.
On another Avenue, Eagle Rock to be exact, Chef Andrew Blume of newly opened Two Men And An Appetite, shared his pepperoni parmesan popcorn recipe. After rendering pepperoni in a frypan, take out the crisped pepperoni and use the oil to pop the corn. As soon as it finishes popping sprinkle parmesan cheese over the top. This will be Two Men And An Appetite’s first appearance at Taste of Montclair and we think its going to be a good one.
The amazing Chef Todd Villani of Terre `a Terre in Carlstadt, and Taste headliner, likes his own buffalo popcorn, tossing it in hot sauce, fresh ground pepper and salt and some olive oil. Look for Terre `a Terre on March 14.

The Taste of Montclair jam-master, Kim Osterhoudt, the woman of Jams by Kim, likes her popcorn sweet and spicy. She suggests melting butter and adding her pepper jam to create a glaze to drizzle over the popcorn. Once drizzled a sprinkle of sea salt finishes this Super Bowl treat sweetly.
Hipatia Lopez, creator of the Empanada Fork loves to melt fresh butter over popcorn and while its hot, sprinkle cheddar cheese over it as well. Hipatia will join Two Men as a debut at Taste this year.
Kimmy Buchannan makes some amazing cakes and sweet treats. When we asked her how she likes her popcorn, the answer had to be sweet. A savory caramel drizzle with toffee or chocolate chip add-ins are a staple snack in her home. Kimmy’s Kakes will debut at Taste of Montclair this year.

Lori Sica of NJ Greats is a Connectpreneur: As a life long resident of New Jersey, Lori is still amazed at all this state has to offer. While it is small in size, opportunity is larger than large. Minutes from Manhattan, miles of coastline and many towns and cities to hang your “open” for business sign. Our modern cultural lineage dates back to Ellis Island immigration and many of those generations framed their lives here, sharing their trades and talents.
There is no shortage of history in this state either. George Washington had several Revolutionary War encampments, the first ever recorded baseball game was played here and the State House in Trenton is America’s second oldest still in use. Let’s not forget that New Jersey is also home to one of the greatest innovators of all time, Thomas Edison. That spirit is alive and well today. For every entrepreneur who opens shop here, the network opportunities are endless. Lori embraces that spirit as a social media wizard, Ambassador of charitable organization & events. She is editor and founder of NJGreats.
