Diet-to-Go on January 4th announced it has launched a meal plan specifically created for people who have Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. The plan’s calorie-controlled meals will also help people lose and manage their weight.
The 25-year-old Northern Virginia-based diet food delivery company’s “Balance-D Diabetes” meal plan follows American Diabetes Association’s nutritional guidelines. It also addresses the challenge people with the condition face when it comes to knowing what to eat, proper portion sizes and how to fit healthy eating into their busy lives.
Monitoring diabetes or prediabetes can be difficult for people with the condition and their health care providers, according to the American Diabetes Association’s newly released 2016 Standards of Care.
William H. Herman, professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Michigan and chair of the Association’s Professional Practice Committee, says the need to cohesively outline goals and treatment in accordance with today’s challenges is an ongoing dilemma faced by people who have Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
“People with diabetes, their families, and their health care providers are constantly challenged to achieve diabetes treatment goals,” he says.
Karen O’Keefe, MD, a family physician in Bellingham, Washington, adds that she sees patients all the time who are looking to take control of their health. “Diabetes and prediabetes doesn’t have to be a debilitating condition,” O’Keefe says. “It’s something that people can gain control of, especially with a proper diet.”
