It’s The Great Pumpkin (Spice) Charlie Brown | Asalt & Buttery

Asalt and Buttery in Caldwell NJ introduces Pumpkin Spice French Macarons to celebrate the season.

pumpkin spice 002Pumpkin spice, or pumpkin pie spice, is a combination of warm spices originally blended to create the spice in pumpkin pie. Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice usually come together for Thanksgiving but now show up in all manner of products starting about Labor Day. From time to time a “food journalist” will get their knickers in a twist writing ad nauseam about the final product not containing any pumpkin. ARGH!) Keep in mind that steak sauce does not contain any steak, and cake frosting does not contain any cake! Forget all of that nonsense, pumpkin pie spice is about the spice, and just the spice.

At Asalt & Buttery, Pumpkin Pie Spice macarons are quickly becoming a seasonal favorite. With crisp meringue shells and  a spicy ganache filling, this American take on the traditional French Macaron  is a new customer favorite. The macs will be available for the season, but once Santa’s sleigh rides past Macy*s on Thanksgiving morning, pumpkin futures collapse and the flavor goes into hiding until next fall.

For customers who cannot make it to Caldwell, Asalt and Buttery now offers online ordering, with delivery nationwide.

John Lee is Black Tie and Flip Flops’ Raconteur-In-Chief: the World of food is his playground ~ the whole world! Having a Navy Dad gave John the passion to discover the world. Whether in one of Mr. Boeing’s flying machines, as an armchair traveler with a great book, or a plate beaming with the exotic flavors and fragrances, his day is all about discovering the world and sharing the stories with everyone he meets.

John cut his teeth in commercial kitchens starting in high school and continued into his undergrad years, then the media bug bit. After University he spent time at the Washington Post Company before jumping on the first internet wave in the 1990’s at some of the major players of the era. John also established himself as a culinary instructor where his style of cooking was first called “Comfort Food Remixed.” Don’t get him started on Disney Dining, but yes, he tried “the grey stuff” and it is delicious. John jokes that he’s staying in NJ because he didn’t have enough miles to trade in for a return ticket home to San Diego, but we think he likes it here.
