The Nutley Farmers’ Market, like Nutley itself, is one of those gems that is hidden right in the middle of everything. With major roadways and freeways cutting through and across almost every town in the state except Nutley, the township is unique in that “you can’t get there from here.” A trip into this Essex County community involves turns and curves, as well as passing through other communities if traveling by parkway or the 3. With GPS in every automobile, people from all over the region are discovering what the locals have known for a long time. Know as the home to the Old Canal Inn, Jaret’s Stuffed Cupcakes, and MEAL, Nutley also has a pretty nifty and growing farmers market.
The Nutley Farmers Market is located in the Municipal Lot behind the Nutley Diner. The lot is huge. There is room for expansion of the market as well as plenty of free parking. Free Parking. Lots of it.
It gets better. The market manager knows that word of mouth is the best form of advertising, so they encourage patrons and guests to use the hashtag #nutleyfarmersmarket on facebook, twitter, and instagram. Has it worked? Of course, that’s how I discovered the market!
Not familiar with the Nutley Farmers’ Market? It’s a nice surprise and bigger than you might expect.

John Lee is Black Tie and Flip Flops’ Raconteur-In-Chief: the World of food is his playground ~ the whole world! Having a Navy Dad gave John the passion to discover the world. Whether in one of Mr. Boeing’s flying machines, as an armchair traveler with a great book, or a plate beaming with the exotic flavors and fragrances, his day is all about discovering the world and sharing the stories with everyone he meets.
John cut his teeth in commercial kitchens starting in high school and continued into his undergrad years, then the media bug bit. After University he spent time at the Washington Post Company before jumping on the first internet wave in the 1990’s at some of the major players of the era. John also established himself as a culinary instructor where his style of cooking was first called “Comfort Food Remixed.” Don’t get him started on Disney Dining, but yes, he tried “the grey stuff” and it is delicious. John jokes that he’s staying in NJ because he didn’t have enough miles to trade in for a return ticket home to San Diego, but we think he likes it here.
