Montclair NJ (June 4, 2015) – Chef James DeSisto, Executive Chef and Owner of Laboratorio Kitchen in Montclair Center announces a series of events to support the supplemental nutrition programs of the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair..
“Hunger is a very real issue that affects many more of our neighbors than most of us realize.” The Human Needs Pantry serves seniors, disabled, and other at risk neighbors in the Bloomfield Ave corridor from Bloomfield to Montclair, from Verona to the Caldwells. “So many of us think ‘that can never happen to me’ but the reality is that one serious illness or job loss can put me, or you, or your neighbor in need of assistance” said DeSisto.
On July 14, 2014 Laboratorio will host a special 3-course prix fixe dinner for the Human Needs Food Pantry featuring a selection of favorite items from the regular menu. DeSisto’s signature dish, Atlantic Salmon with charred watermelon, vanilla bean vinaigrette and arugula salad will be featured as will the house made Burrata Cheese salad. It is served with truffled tomatoes. The Prix Fixe will include appetizer or salad, and dessert. 50% of all sales from the evening will be donated to the Human Needs Food Pantry.
Given the special, and important, nature of this event, guests will be required to pre-pay via credit card by calling Laboratorio at (973) 746-6100 to ensure the house is filled and as much money is raised as possible. Tickets are also available on Eventbrite to ensure the house is filled and as much money is raised as possible. This event is non-refundable. 100% of proceeds from cancelled reservations will be donated to the Human Needs food Pantry.
This past week the Human Needs Pantry shared the news that for the first time in a long time their shelves are bare. Donations typically drop off in the summer months because so many supporters travel this time of year – this year the contributions dropped off earlier than in the past.
“When I saw the photos the pantry posted I knew I had to do something immediately” said Desisto. “On Tuesdays in June, Laboratorio will donate 25% of each patron’s bill to the pantry. Mike Bruno and his team of volunteers will be able to use these funds to help fill the shelves as the call for grocery donations from the community continues.
Before taking over Laboratorio in late 2014, Chef James DeSisto, a graduate of Johnson and Wales, spent time in the kitchens of Emeril Lagasse, Mitchell Alzholz of the Highlawn Pavillion and Chopped Champion Chef Michael Dilonno of Avenue Bistro in Verona. When he is not in the kitchen DeSisto loves to spend time with wife and daughter trying new foods that celebrate the cultural diversity of New Jersey.
